History of Sing A Mile High

After attending various children’s choir festivals throughout the U.S. and Europe, Chrys Harris and Jena Dickey decided to bring this experience to the beautiful city of Denver, Colorado. Their goal was to offer treble choirs the opportunity to gather for 5 days of collaboration and camaraderie, to learn from outstanding guest directors and clinicians, to achieve excellence in a festival performance, and to perform in the amazing Newman Center for the Performing Arts. They also wanted to provide comfortable accommodations, the security of small modern campus, youth-centered activities and a friendly environment at an all-inclusive affordable price.

In June 2006, Chrys and Jena saw their vision come to life during the first Sing A Mile High Festival. With conductors Dr. Rollo Dilworth and Dr. Catherine Sailer, the festival hosted 9 choirs from 8 states and over 300 singers!

Since that time Sing A Mile High has hosted several other amazing guest conductors, including Dr. David Brunner, Bob Chilcott, Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory. Over the years there have been over 5000 participating singers from more that 120 different choirs, and several have returned multiple times! Sing a Mile High evolved into a festival for children and youth, welcoming treble and changing voices. 14 commissioned works have been premiered.
